SURCHARGE SERVICE TAX Bills are payable by the date mentioned in the bill. If not paid within this date , surcharge for late payment is leviable as follows The central excise authorities have been authorised to administer service Tax.
Telegraph authority is made responsible to recover the service tax. Service tax shall be recovered as per applicable (at the rate of 12.24%) on the total charges claimed on the telephone Bill.Amount Payable Amount of Surcharge Rs 1 to 500 Rs 10 Rs 501 to 1,000 Rs 20 Rs 1001 to 2000 Rs 40 Rs 2001 to 3500 Rs 70 EXEMPTIONS Rs 3501 to 5000 Rs 100 The following services related to telephone connections are exempted from service charges : Rs 5001 to 7500 Rs 150 * Departmentally run public telephone for local calls only Rs 7501 to 10,000 Rs 200 * Guaranteed public telephones for local calls only Rs 10,001 to 20,000 Rs 400 * Free telephones at air ports/ hospitals etc. where no bill is issued Rs 20,000 to 50,000 Rs 1,000 Rs 50,000 onwards Rs 2,000
Fortnightly meter reading will be provided on request . A fee for Rs 2 for each fortnightly reading will be charged & included in the subsequent telephone bills
If bills are not received within a week following the date on which the bill is due to be issued please collect the copy of duplicate bill. The places where the duplicate bills are available are mentioned below . Non receipt of the bills are due to transmission delay is not acceptable as a reason for non payment.
